| Board of Christian Education |
is a governing and policy-making board designed to maintain and strengthen the vision of Lutheran education in the community. This Board is an advisory body whose duties and functions include assisting in establishing long and short-range goals, determining general policies, operating and maintaining of school facilities and reviewing and assisting with planning for the school budget.
Officers meet once a month on the school campus. Members include installed congregation members of the church, the principal, pastor and may hold representatives from the Parent-Teacher League.
If a parent would like to place an item on the meeting agenda, it must be submitted to the Principal or Board Chairperson 10 days prior to the meeting.

Principal : Ruth Wessling is the Principal and 7th and 8th Grade teacher of Faith Lutheran School where her husband is the pastor of the host congregation, Faith Lutheran Church. She and Mark are proud of and grateful for their three sons, now in their 20’s. Ruth is a graduate of Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and holds a degree in Early Childhood Education. She also has a Florida Child Care and Education Program Director's Credential. In 2007 she was chosen by her peers in the Florida-Georgia District for the high honor of “Middle School Teacher of the Year.” Ruth has taught all grades but still especially enjoys her involvement with the Pre-School program at Faith. Coaching the Volleyball Team each fall is just one of the many highlights of her school year.

Secretary : mKathy Meyers is the secretary for Faith Lutheran church and School. As a forever Miami resident, she has been a member her at Faith since 1989. She and her husband, of 27 years, have two grown sons who both attended and graduated the 8th grade from Faith Lutheran School. Mrs. Meyers was a Pre-K3 teacher for 6 years, then became the church/school secretary in 1996. She loves to serve the Lord in this church, school, and community. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, bowling and coaching a youth bowling team.

PRE- K 3 teacher : Lucy Villarmarzo (also known as Mrs. V.) is the lead teacher for the 2 ½ & 3 year old preschoolers. She has been working at Faith Lutheran School for the past five years. She is a graduate of Florida International University with a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education with specialties in Early Childhood. She will be celebrating her 30th wedding anniversary next year. Lucy’s son, Xavier, is working on his Sport Journalism career and her daughter, Diana, is studying to become a nurse. She has lived in Faith’s neighborhood since her arrival from Cuba at the age of 11. Lucy and Jose, her husband, are active members of their parish and the Charismatic Movement. They enjoy spending their weekends serving the Lord.

Pre-K 4 Teacher : Esther Callava has been the Pre-K 4 lead teacher at Faith Lutheran School since 2000. Raised in New York City she came to Miami in 1982. Ms. Callava studied at St. Thomas University where she earned her CDA and continues to take courses to advance her education. She loves working with children between the ages of 1 to 5, and enjoys sharing her personal life with her 2 grown daughters that also live here in Miami.

Kindergarten teacher : Rubina Anwar, a 28-year resident of Miami Springs, is our Kindergarten teacher with 19 years of experience and a specialty in Early Childhood Education. A graduate of the University of Karachi in Pakistan, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. She also holds an Associate's Degree in Education from Miami-Dade Community College and a Director's Credential from Nova University. She is currently working toward her Bachelor's Degree in Education from FIU. She and her husband Sohail have been blessed with two sons. She loves children and looks forward to being with them every day. She loves to socialize, cook & bake, and spend time in her garden.

1st grade teacher : Rose Baez is the 1st grade teacher here at Faith. She has been teaching at Faith for the last 8 years. She enjoys working with children and receives great satisfaction helping her students learn new things. Ms. Baez feels that being a teacher is rewarding, challenging, exciting but most importantly a true passion for her. She cares about the development of her 1st graders and is determined to help prepare their minds adequately for the future.

2nd grade teacher: Annie Capote is the 2nd grade teacher. Originally from Hinesville, Georgia, she has easily made a “home away from home” here at Faith Lutheran School for the past 3 years. Ms. Capote started teaching 5 years ago with 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in the English studies. She and her husband share a family with their 2 beloved dogs. She enjoys reading, cooking and spending time at the beach with her family..

3rd grade teacher : Kathryn Acevedo is our 3rd grade teacher. She has been professionally involved with education for the past 13 years, 3 of which have been right here at Faith. One of her passions is music and shares her gift by leading the Children’s choir here at Faith called “Wings of Praise”. Mrs. Acevedo is a graduate of Trinity International University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. As a native of Florida, Mrs. Acevedo loves gardening and enjoys the outdoors. She and her entire family are involved in church ministries throughout the country, including her beloved Miami Shores. The Lord has blessed Mrs. Acevedo with 2 wonderful children and has recently become a proud grandmother.

4th grade teacher : Elizabeth McKinney has taught at Faith for 5 years teaching grades 3 through 6th. This year she teaches 4th grade and has explored a variety of science experiments, cultivated a vegetable/herb garden and traveled an intellectual tour around the United States through social studies. A graduate of Florida International University she holdsa bachelors degree in Elementary education and a masters degree in Urban Education. Ms. McKinney is an active member and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Miami Springs. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, traveling and listening to Irish music.

5th and 6th grade teacher : Carol Covington is the 5th and 6th grade teacher. She is a native “Miamian”, and is an experienced elementary, middle and high school where she has been teaching for well over 20 years. In 1990, Mrs. Covington made use of the gifts God has given her to open a private tutoring business which she works aside from her school teacher position. She is a graduate of Florida State University, and is the mother of a successful son. She takes pride in giving others a helping hand. Her philosophy is, “One is made to give and serve without expecting anything in return- other than a ‘Thank You’”.
